About Us
Our Mission
At Helping Hearts and Healing Tails, our mission is to save and improve the lives of animals in need. We are a no-kill rescue committed to helping abandoned, abused, and special needs animals. By providing medical care, rehabilitation, and loving foster homes, we strive to give every animal a second chance at a happy and fulfilling life.
A Tail As Old As Time
Our Story.
Helping Hearts and Healing Tails was founded in 2015 by Amber, who had been privately rescuing animals for years. Her deep passion for animal welfare and her dedication to helping the most vulnerable inspired her to formalize her efforts into a nonprofit rescue organization. What started as a small, personal mission to save a handful of animals each year has since grown into a successful, thriving rescue.
Amber recognized the overwhelming need for more help in the community, especially for animals with medical and special needs. With limited resources but boundless compassion, she founded HHHT to provide a safe haven for animals of all breeds and species, with a special focus on those who need medical care, rehabilitation, or extra support.
Initially, HHHT was a small operation, rescuing only a few animals at a time. However, through Amber’s dedication and the support of volunteers and fosters, the rescue has flourished. Today, HHHT operates with a network of multiple foster homes and has saved thousands of animals, growing from a local effort into a trusted organization that continues to expand its reach. Despite its growth, the rescue remains true to its core mission: to give every animal a second chance at a better life, especially those with special needs.
How We Help Animals
At Helping Hearts and Healing Tails, we take a comprehensive approach to animal rescue, ensuring that each animal in our care receives the attention, medical treatment, and support they need. Here’s how we make a difference:
-
We work closely with local law enforcement, cruelty cases, and shelters to take in animals who have been abandoned, abused, or surrendered. Whenever possible, we also accept animals from kill shelters, providing them a lifeline they wouldn’t otherwise have.
-
Every animal that comes into our rescue receives a thorough veterinary examination. We ensure they are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm, Lyme disease, and other health concerns. For animals with existing medical conditions, we provide the treatments they need to recover and heal.
-
Our network of foster homes is a vital part of the rescue process. Animals who are too young, sick, or injured to stay in the shelter environment are placed in loving foster homes where they can grow and heal. Our fosters also help prepare these animals for life in a permanent home, offering socialization and basic training to ensure a smoother transition to adoption.
-
For animals that need extra support, we provide behavioral training and rehabilitation. Our fosters and trainers work with each animal to address any issues they may have, helping them become well-adjusted pets ready for a forever home.
-
Our ultimate goal is to find each animal a loving, permanent home. Through our thorough adoption process—which includes vet checks, personal references, and home visits—we make sure that each animal is placed with a family that is a perfect fit for their needs.
-
For stray animals that are claimed by their owners, we follow a structured process to ensure they are safely returned once proof of ownership is provided. For animals that cannot remain in our care, we collaborate with approved rescue partners to transfer them to facilities where they have a better chance of adoption.
Through every step of the process, from rescue to adoption, our focus is on giving each animal the care and attention they deserve. Whether it’s saving animals from euthanasia, providing life-saving medical treatment, or helping them find their forever home, we are committed to making a lasting impact on every life we touch.
Rescue Success Stories!
-
Bentley
Bentley came to the rescue after being shot twice AND hit by a car. He was found in a roadside ditch, just barely hanging onto life. It took a lot of time, but Bentley is now a thriving tripod living with his foster fail furever family. He is the light of their lives and they spoil him with love and toys. Bentley is a very active and playful dog. We’ve come to the conclusion that he gains his strength from the souls he sucks out of every stuffie he destroys. He’s left quite the path of death and destruction of stuffies. It’s so substantial that the legend of Bentley the Eviscerator has been heard far and wide and stuffies across all the lands now fear him.

Kiwi
Kiwi was found near death in a landfill. She was emaciated and extremely ill. She spent several weeks at the emergency vet clinic clinging to life. Kiwi’s will to live and her fighting spirit helped her survive her terrible ordeal though. Once she was released, she went to a foster home, where she learned to be a sweet little puppy again. Her foster mom fell in love with her and is now her furever mom!
-
Mouse
Mouse was brought to the rescue after her owner passed away. She was terribly scared and had been hiding for several days in the home. After she had some time to decompress at her foster home, her loving personality began to show. She was sweet, cuddly, and playful. Mouse was soon adopted to an amazing family and now gets all the cuddle time she wants!
